JUNIOR Varsity Falcons game outline - August 18

FALCONS GO 11 - 0 THE PERFECT SEASON

The London Falcons put the exclamation point on their undefeated season with a 26 – 10 win over the Toronto Thunder in the OVFL junior championship game played at Varsity Stadium in Toronto. This marks the second time in three seasons that the junior Falcons have captured the provincial title

The Falcons took the opening drive of the game and established their moxie for the day. Using strong running, complemented by a stellar passing attack by QB Jacob Damstra, the Falcons marched the ball methodically down field from their own 33 yard line to pay dirt. Running Back Kenny Eansor, the championship game Most Valuable Player, capped the drive with a 1-yard plunge 6 minutes into the game, and the Falcons never looked back. WR Nolan Allison’s 2-point convert gave the Falcons an 8 – 0 lead.

From there the Falcons played like the championship team that they are. The London squad used a dominating defense, a strong offence, and outstanding special teams play to take a 16 – 7 lead into the half. The Falcons other scoring came on an 8-yard reception by WR David Hessel, converted by PK Peter Park, and a single on a field goal attempt that had the stadium crowd buzzing as to why it was deemed wide by the officiating crew.

The Thunder tried to get back into the game on their opening drive on the second half, but had to settle on a field goal to close the gap to 16 – 10. However, that was as close as they would get as the Falcons made sure that there would be no sound of Thunder on a beautiful sunny day in Toronto.

The Falcons Park got redemption midway through the fourth quarter as he split the uprights from 41 yards out. The field goal put the Falcons up by nine, giving the Falcons a comfortable margin that was not challenged.

The Falcons defense stymied the Thunder again, forcing a Toronto punt with just over 5 minutes remaining in the game. The Falcons took the ball methodically downfield with strong running by both Eansor, and his backfield mate RB Ryan George. The Falcons closed the game out as Eansor scored on another 1-yard dive with under two minutes to play in the game. Park’s convert was the final score on the day.

In addition to the perfect season the junior Falcons also took home several pieces of hardware:

DT Nate Annan was named the championship game Defensive MVP
RB Ryan George was named the championship game Offensive MVP
RB Kenny Eansor was named the championship game Most Valuable Player
PK Andros Agathos was awarded the Special Teams player of the year
DT Austin Pasztor was awarded the Defensive Line player of the year
OL Mike Dicicco was awarded the Offensive Line player of the year
RB Kenny Eansor was awarded the Running Back player of the year

PEE WEE Varsity Falcons game outline - August 17

Peewee Falcons Win Provincial Title

The London Peewee Falcons are a part of history now after a convincing 27-0 victory over the Ajax Pickering Dolphins in the first T. Litzen Bowl for the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) Pee Wee division. The Falcons exploded for 27 points in the second quarter and that proved to be all the scoring in this hard fought game.

The two teams played smash-mouth football in the first quarter, as yards gained were hard to come by. Daryl Rooney of the Falcons made some blistering tackles that shook Varsity Stadium and impressed the Falcon fans.

The second quarter scoring began when Brett Weir returned a punt 87 yards for the first Falcon touchdown. He broke several tackles and left a trail of Dolphins behind him. Adam Sinclair and Sebastian Rovithis ran the ball extremely well to set up a David Copp TD pass to Brett Weir that went 46 yards. A failed convert set the score at 13-0 Falcons.

The Falcons went on to stop the Dolphins, led by powerful tackles from Matt Cini and John Butkus. Falcons QB Copp took the next series to pay dirt, as speedster Dustin Ho outran the Pickering defense, by completing a pass right on the money. Sinclair ran the two-point conversion in and the Falcons led 21-0.

The Falcons were not done yet. Weir drew several defenders as he lined up as a receiver on the right side. The Dolphins defense shifted to Weir. The Falcons took advantage of the shift as Colin Mandich made a terrific catch on the left side and ran it in to make the score 27-0 as time ran out in the first half. The extra point was missed.

The third quarter saw running back Adam Sinclair injured early on. Backup RB Avery Lawrence stepped up and made some good runs behind great blocking to keep the clock moving.

The second half was tough football. The Dolphins would not quit on their quest to become the first champion of the Pee Wee OVFL. However, the Falcons were equally driven and would bend but not break. Justin Burgess, Stephen Bugeja, Matt Cini, and Andrew Oliver dug deep along with the rest of the defense to keep the Dolphins scoreless.

Congratulations to Coach Gary Gerard and all the Falcon team who won four straight road games in the playoffs to reach the pinnacle of their season, becoming OVFL Champions.

Awards: As selected by the OVFL

Championship Game MVP – Brett Weir
Offensive Player of the Game – David Copp
Defensive Player of the Game – Matt Cini
